A downloadable mod for Windows and Linux

Crinum Blap is a ROM hack of the Famicom / Dendy game Battle City, distributed in the form of a self-applying patch. To play this ROM hack you must already have a particular TOSEC-distributed ROM of that game. The zip file available here does not contain any copyrighted data.

CB is an extremely silly and pointless ROM hack - most of the changes are to the text, with some unusual work done to the sprites. This was basically done as a way to teach myself the basics of ROM hacking.

Taking a popular Dendy game and screwing with it in 2022 might be seen a kind of absurdist protest against a particular government / deranged weirdo. But it's you thinking that, not me. Honest.

Crinum is a genus of about 180 species of perennial plants that have large showy flowers on leafless stems, and develop from bulbs. They are found in seasonally moist areas, including marshes, swamps, depressions and along the sides of streams and lakes in tropical and subtropical areas worldwide.  Blap is just blap.

Install instructions

Extract the zip somewhere suitable. Next, it's up to you to locate the correct ROM by whatever means. The required file is called "Battle City (1985-09-09)(Namco)(JP).nes". Again, you're on your own with that one. Once you have it, copy the ROM into the unpacked folder from the original zip file.

If you're on Windows, double click the batch file. On Linux, you'll have to run the bash script. The result of either of these things should result in a new patched ROM file. If something goes wrong, the CRC check failed, which means the ROM you have isn't the right one.
